Welcome

Sefton Spotlights is Sefton Park Junior School’s vibrant after-school Musical Theatre Club, designed to ignite a love of the performing arts in children from Years 3 to 6. Whether your child dreams of standing center stage or wants to explore the magic of musical theatre in a supportive environment, Sefton Spotlights offers something for everyone.

Our club runs twice a year with two distinct programs:

Summer Club: Taking place during Term 5 and 6, this workshop-based program is open to all children in Years 3 to 6. Summer Club is all about developing musical theatre skills in a relaxed and engaging environment. Through fun team-building drama games and focused sessions on singing, acting, and dancing, children have the chance to grow in confidence and creativity. Specific audition preparation is also included, making it an excellent introduction for those new to the club or thinking about joining our performance-focused Autumn Club. Summer Club does not culminate in a production, so it’s a great way for children to dip their toes into musical theatre without the pressure of a big show.

Autumn Club: Held during Term 1 and 2, this is where the excitement of putting on a full-scale production comes to life. Open to children in Years 4 to 6, the Autumn Club is for those ready to fully commit to the world of theatre. After auditioning in July, children spend the summer learning their lines before rehearsals kick off in September. These two-hour weekly sessions focus entirely on preparing for a spectacular Christmas production. The process includes learning choreography, practicing songs, and rehearsing scenes, often spilling into lunchtimes, breaks, and even whole-school assemblies. The hard work pays off with up to four performances that wow audiences and leave children with a huge sense of pride and accomplishment.

Sefton Spotlights wouldn’t be possible without the incredible voluntary support of Sefton Park Junior School staff and the generous contributions from parents and carers. We strive to make musical theatre accessible and enjoyable for every child, building their confidence, fostering teamwork, and creating unforgettable memories along the way.

From skill-building workshops to dazzling stage productions, Sefton Spotlights is a cornerstone of creativity at Sefton Park Junior School. Whether your child joins us for a season or dives into both clubs, they’ll discover the joy and magic of musical theatre in an environment where every role matters, every voice is heard, and every performer shines.

our history

Sefton Spotlights has grown to become a beloved tradition at Sefton Park Junior School, inspiring young performers and bringing the magic of musical theatre to life year after year.

The club began in 2019 with a small but passionate group of students, performing The Grinch in the school’s Junior Hall to an audience of just 40. The enthusiasm and talent of the children shone through, and it quickly became clear that Sefton Spotlights had the potential to grow into something much bigger.

By 2021, the club was staging Elf The Musical Jr at St Bartholomew’s Church Hall. This was a turning point, as more than 300 tickets were sold across two performances, showcasing the incredible support from the school community.

The following years saw even greater successes. In 2022, Matilda The Musical Jr took the stage at Badminton School, featuring four performances and drawing over 600 attendees. Then, in 2023, The Lion King Jr dazzled audiences at the same venue with another four-show run, selling more than 650 tickets.

In 2024, the club reached a new milestone with Frozen Jr, performed at the prestigious Mackinnon Theatre in the 1532 Centre at Bristol Grammar School. With 900 tickets sold, this production marked the club’s largest and most ambitious show yet.

Over the years, Sefton Spotlights has expanded not only in size but also in the scope of its offerings. From workshop-based Summer Clubs that develop core theatre skills to the rehearsal-intensive Autumn Clubs that culminate in spectacular productions, the club has become an integral part of the school’s community.

Sefton Spotlights continues to thrive thanks to the dedication of Sefton Park Junior School staff, the commitment of our young performers, and the invaluable support of parents and carers. Each production builds on the legacy of those before it, creating unforgettable memories and nurturing a lifelong love of theatre in every child who steps into the spotlight.
